Is Seyi Makinde Against Local Government Autonomy?

SEYI MAKINDE WANTS THE COUNTRY TO DO THE RIGHT THING, HE DOES NOT WANT NIGERIANS TO SUFFER

LG AUTONOMY: GOV. MAKINDE SET UP COMMITTEE, SAYS WE’LL DO WHAT IS RIGHT; WON’T ALLOW OUR PEOPLE TO SUFFER

Oyo State governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has declared that his government will not allow the people of the state to suffer from the fallout of the Supreme Court judgment, which granted financial autonomy to local governments in the country.

The governor maintained that the judgment has created a constitutional lacuna that will throw up different challenges at the local government level, saying that though he is not opposed to transparency in the councils, the Supreme Court judgment “is not a silver bullet that will wash away” Nigeria’s problems

Governor Makinde stated this on Monday, during an Advisory/Consultative Committee Meeting comprising stakeholders in the local government system, noting that he convened a meeting of all relevant stakeholders in the local government system so that they could outline the major challenges at the councils and develop solutions that will ensure a seamless implementation of the process in a way that will ensure Oyo State people do not suffer.

GOVERNOR SEYI MAKINDE AND THE ENDSARS PROTEST

“”Peaceful protests are a legitimate way for citizens to make their grievances known to the government, and it is totally unacceptable for anyone to be hurt during such protests.” – Seyi Makinde on Oct. 12, 2020“

While so many questions remain unanswered till today two years after the Nationwide EndSars protest of frustrated youths against the excesses of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad Department of the Nigerian Police Force, Nigerian youths remain committed to the religious observance of the day in grief of the lives accounted to be lost during the protest.

Several evidences have confirmed some of these excesses, and the cruel disposition of some members of the Police Force even during the protests to express dissatisfaction and call for justice; amongst these evident instances was the demise of Jimoh Isiaq in Ogbomoso area of Oyo State, in the hands of trigger happy police men revolting against peaceful protesters in the area.
